Organized by the Department of Food Sciences at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, a scientific field visit was conducted for postgraduate students to Sama Karbala and Al-Bawadi poultry production and processing plants under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ilham Ismail Al-Shammari and Lecturer Dr. Noor Shukr Ahmed. The visit was held within the framework of supporting applied scientific research, achieving sustainable development goals—particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education)—and fulfilling the requirements of the Advanced Food Microbiology course for postgraduate students.
The visit included an extensive tour of poultry processing facilities and slaughterhouses, where students observed production workflows, the implementation of international quality systems such as ISO and HACCP, and food safety and quality management practices within industrial facilities. Students were also introduced to the latest globally adopted manufacturing technologies, contributing to the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical application.
The visit aimed to strengthen students’ practical understanding of food safety and quality management systems, provide direct exposure to ISO and HACCP applications in real industrial environments, and enhance their skills in quality control and food safety assurance. It also offered valuable field experience regarding modern technologies used in poultry product manufacturing.
This initiative reflects the college’s commitment to keeping pace with scientific and technological advancements in Iraq’s food industry sector and preparing qualified scientific cadres capable of meeting labor market demands while promoting food quality and safety.
