Within the framework of enhancing practical training and linking theoretical knowledge with industrial applications, the Department of Food Science at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific field trip for third-year students to the College’s Dairy Plant located at the Abu Ghraib campus. This visit was conducted as part of the practical requirements for the courses Food Engineering and Food and Dairy Processing Engineering.
The field trip was supervised by Professor Dr. Shaimaa Saadi Lafta, Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Saba Jaafar, Lecturer Dr. Hind Kamal Ali, and Assistant Lecturer Firas Ahmed Saleh. The delegation was received by Mr. Ali Basheer, Assistant Lecturer and Director of the Dairy Plant.
During the visit, students gained hands-on exposure to the operation of several pieces of equipment used in dairy processing, including the cream separator and the homogenizer, and learned about their roles in improving the quality of dairy products. Detailed explanations were provided regarding operating principles, production efficiency, and their importance in industrial processing.
The field trip aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of food processing engineering by introducing them to the fundamentals of production line planning and design, the sequence of processing operations, and operational and safety requirements within processing plants. This experience contributes to preparing students both scientifically and practically for the labor market and enhances their applied skills in the field of food industries.
