The activities of Global Entrepreneurship Week were launched at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, under the slogan “From the Land of Mesopotamia, Ideas Take Flight,” during the period February 8–12, 2026. The program included the organization of specialized workshops, scientific and extension seminars, and the exhibition of entrepreneurial projects.
The event aimed to promote a culture of innovation, support entrepreneurial ideas, and encourage students to transform scientific knowledge into applied projects that serve society, the environment, and agricultural development, while fostering an innovation-driven mindset within the academic institution.
These activities come within the framework of the college’s strategic orientation toward supporting entrepreneurial initiatives, encouraging creative ideas, and supplying society with productive projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development.
The events were inaugurated with the organization of a diverse bazaar by the Department of Food Sciences, in cooperation with the Department of Field Crops, where a variety of products were showcased.
In addition, the Department of Agricultural Economics at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad organized a two-day scientific training course entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Research with Applications of the SciSpace Program.” The course was delivered by Professor Dr. Basim Hazim and Professor Dr. Zahraa Hadi. The training was held under the guidance and supervision of the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameera Mohammed Saleh, and followed up by the Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, Professor Dr. Iskandar Hussein Ali.
The course aimed to develop the skills of postgraduate students and researchers in employing artificial intelligence technologies in scientific research, particularly in writing literature reviews, through introducing the SciSpace program and its applications in smart PDF searching, reference organization, and reference management.
The lecturers emphasized the importance of familiarizing researchers and postgraduate students with artificial intelligence applications in scientific research and using them in ways that enhance research quality and academic rigor.
Furthermore, the Department of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment organized a specialized workshop entitled “From Draft to Platform: A Roadmap for Publishing in International Journals,” delivered by Lecturer Mustafa Ahmed Jalal, as part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week activities. The workshop was sponsored by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameera Mohammed Saleh, supervised by the Head of the Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Qasim Mousa Madlul, and attended by a number of faculty members.
The workshop aimed to empower researchers with tools for scientific entrepreneurship by presenting an integrated roadmap. It began with the research preparation phase, focusing on assessing manuscript readiness, criteria for selecting journals aligned with the research scope, understanding Scopus and Web of Science classifications, and calculating impact factors and CiteScore metrics.
The workshop then moved to scientific manuscript engineering, highlighting professional writing strategies based on the global IMRaD structure, effective abstract writing, and crafting persuasive cover letters to enhance acceptance by journal editors.
It also shed light on the peer-review and evaluation process, explaining professional approaches to handling reviewers’ comments and various editorial decision scenarios.
The workshop concluded with a focus on impact creation, emphasizing the importance of building a researcher’s digital identity through platforms such as ORCID, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate to increase research citations, while stressing adherence to publication ethics and the avoidance of plagiarism.
