In line with the goals of sustainable development—quality education, zero hunger, and life on land—Prof. Emeritus Dr. Natiq Hameed Al-Qudsi from the Department of Animal Production, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, in collaboration with Prof. Dr. Khalid Hassani Sultan and Dr. Muthanna Fathi Al-Jawari from the University of Mosul, has published a comprehensive scientific book titled:
“World Sheep Encyclopedia.”
This book was written to serve as a comprehensive scientific reference for researchers and specialists in the field of animal production, given the strategic importance of sheep and their significant role in supporting food security and providing sources of animal protein (meat and milk) as well as wool.
Main themes of the encyclopedia:
Global survey:
A comprehensive overview of the status, population, and distribution of sheep across all continents of the world (Asia, Africa, Australia, and the Americas).
Breed diversity:
Documentation of the best global sheep breeds for meat, wool, and milk production, in addition to dual-purpose breeds.
Iraqi and Arab sheep:
A dedicated section highlighting sheep breeds in Iraq, the Arabian Peninsula, and the Middle East to enhance knowledge of local livestock resources.
Investment and production:
An overview of leading countries investing in sheep production and the latest livestock management practices.
This work represents a valuable addition to the Arabic scientific library and aims to promote scientific awareness of modern sheep-rearing practices and productivity improvement, supporting the national economy while preserving animal biodiversity in Iraq and worldwide.
