The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad, in collaboration with the Arab Association for Environmental Sciences affiliated with the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, organized its First International Scientific Conference entitled “Environmental Pollution in the Arab World: Challenges and Solutions,” under the slogan “Together Towards a Sustainable Arab Environment.” The conference was attended by a large number of specialists, researchers, and individuals interested in environmental affairs from Iraq and abroad.
The conference aimed to highlight contemporary environmental issues and the major challenges they pose, strengthen scientific and research cooperation in environmental sciences, and discuss sustainable solutions to environmental challenges. These efforts seek to support initiatives aimed at achieving a sustainable Arab environment and enhancing integration among Arab academic and research institutions.
The first day began with an opening ceremony featuring a recitation from the Holy Quran, the Iraqi national anthem, and an address by the President of the University of Baghdad, delivered on his behalf by the Administrative Assistant, Professor Dr. Raghad Abdul Razzaq Al-Hashimi. This was followed by an address representing the Federation of Arab Scientific Research Councils, and then a speech by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameera Mohammed Saleh. In her address, she emphasized that holding the conference reflects the College’s commitment to strengthening its scientific and research role in addressing contemporary environmental issues, developing solutions, and keeping pace with emerging environmental challenges.
The opening session also featured a lecture entitled “Sustainable Artificial Intelligence and the Sustainable Development Goals: Between Commitment and Enhancement,” delivered by Professor Dr. Osama Abdul Wahab Mohammed, Head of the Entrepreneurship Unit and Digital Transformation Expert at the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development. Another lecture, entitled “Pollution Reduction and Shared Responsibility,” was delivered by Engineer Louay Sadiq Mohammed from the Ministry of Environment.
