The Civil Defense Directorate, affiliated with the Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Civil Defense Division at the university and the college’s Continuing Education Unit, organized the event. The opening was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Amira Mohammed Saleh, along with the Head of the Animal Production Department, Professor Dr. Hussam Jassim Hussein, and a number of college staff.
During the course, the lecturers delivered a series of awareness-raising lectures over several days. For example, Instructor Thikra Khalid Mohammed from the Student Activities Division participated in delivering lectures, in addition to Colonel Karar Fadhil and First Lieutenant Aya Hussein from the Civil Defense Directorate. Engineer Kadhim Jawad and Hamza Khalaf from the university’s Civil Defense Division also contributed, as did Engineer Hussein from the Military Industrialization Authority, in presenting the course content.
On the other hand, the lectures covered the basics of public safety and its importance in educational and professional institutions. The sessions then explained the types of fire extinguishers and how to use them correctly in case of fires. Furthermore, attendees discussed safe evacuation plans and approved emergency procedures in facilities. Additionally, the trainers emphasized the necessity of adhering to civil defense standards to ensure the safety of individuals and buildings.
Later, the course addressed how to handle minor injuries and provide first aid in emergencies. Meanwhile, participants discussed the importance of periodic maintenance for alarm and firefighting systems, as well as troubleshooting. The trainers also clarified the roles of safety teams and each individual’s responsibilities when implementing emergency plans. Finally, practical exercises helped reinforce concepts and enhance the attendees’ preparedness.
In conclusion, the course achieved its goals in raising participants’ awareness of occupational risk prevention principles, thanks to the interaction between the lecturers and attendees.
