In fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals for quality education, the Plant Protection Department at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad organized an international workshop and discussion session titled “Climate Changes and Their Impact on Pest Management.” The session was delivered by Professor Dr. Ibrahim Jaddou Al-Jubouri, a consultant and expert in pest management, and attended by the academic staff and students of the department.
The workshop aimed to discuss the impact of climate change on the dynamics of agricultural pests and their management methods, highlight future risks of the spread of new pests or the increased severity of existing ones, and clarify the role of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in addressing climate changes. It also sought to promote scientific research and the exchange of international expertise on food security and pest control.
The workshop concluded with the following recommendations:
  • Establish national programs for early pest detection linked to climate variables.

  • Support applied research and adopt modern technologies for predicting pest outbreaks.

  • Develop Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies suited to changing climatic conditions.

  • Enhance scientific cooperation and agricultural extension at both local and international levels.

  • Integrate climate change and pest-related issues into national plans for achieving sustainable food security.

The workshop witnessed broad participation from professors, researchers, and students, with the discussion enriched by constructive scientific opinions and substantive research ideas that contribute to addressing the challenges of climate change in the agricultural sector.
