In the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the University of Baghdad, a defence of the doctoral dissertation titled “Economic Analysis of the Relationship between Agricultural Development and Agricultural Foreign Trade in Iraq for the Period 1990-2020” took place. The student, Akad Saadoun Bashar from the Department of Agricultural Economics, defended the dissertation.

The study aimed to illustrate the relationship between agricultural development and agricultural foreign trade, determining the form of the relationship when present. It also examined the evolution of economic variables influencing agricultural development rates, including the gross domestic product, agricultural investments, and the average annual wage of agricultural workers.

The researcher recommended focusing on agricultural lands, requiring extensive efforts and investments to sustain and reclaim agricultural lands and combat desertification. Additionally, emphasis was placed on water resources due to their significant and vital role in advancing the agricultural sector and achieving positive indicators in agricultural development.

Congratulations to the student on this success.
