Dr. Muthanna Falahi Hammoud, the head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit, lectured at the workshop titled ‘Drugs: The Illusion of Happiness and the Reality of Destruction,’ organized by the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit at Al-Kindy College of Medicine – University of Baghdad. The event took place in the conference hall and was attended by a number of faculty members, administrative staff, and students.
The workshop addressed the negative impact of drugs on individuals and society. The lecturers also discussed the causes of addiction, the risks of drug use, and prevention methods, in addition to the role of students and professors in raising community awareness.
During the workshop, the health and psychological effects of drugs were highlighted, including heart diseases, damage to the nervous system, and mental disorders, as well as their societal impact through increased crime rates and family disintegration. The lecturers explained that the causes of addiction include psychological pressures, bad influences, and the misuse of medical drugs. They emphasized that prevention lies in family and community awareness and strengthening the role of educational institutions in spreading anti-addiction culture.
The workshop witnessed significant interaction from students, who raised numerous questions about treatment and rehabilitation mechanisms. These questions were answered by the guests with precise scientific information.
At the end of the event, participants stressed the need to continue such workshops to raise awareness about the dangers of drugs, emphasizing the importance of everyone’s role in protecting society from this destructive phenomenon.”
