Under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Desertification Combat, Assistant Professor Dr. Afaq Ibrahim Juma, a scientific committee composed of several faculty members from the Department of Desertification Combat at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences carried out a field visit to the experimental plot of Master’s student Fatima Haider Ali, from the same department. The visit aimed to review the stages of implementation of her research entitled:
“The Use of Cyanobacteria Inoculation and Hydrogel Polymer Addition for Soil Sustainability under Water Stress Conditions.”
The experiment is being conducted on cauliflower within the fields of the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering at the college site in Abu Ghraib.
The study aims to investigate the role of these treatments in improving soil water-holding capacity and structure, enhancing soil fertility, and evaluating their effects on plant growth indicators under water stress conditions.
During the visit, the scientific and practical aspects of the research were assessed, along with the level of adherence to the approved research plan. Essential scientific guidance was also provided to enhance research efficiency and ensure the accuracy of the results.
This visit comes as part of ongoing efforts to support applied scientific research and to link graduate studies with issues of desertification control and environmental sustainability, thereby contributing to food security, supporting climate change adaptation, and achieving several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
