The Department of Agricultural Economics, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized a workshop entitled:
“Direct and Indirect Decision-Making in Farms under Conditions of Risk and Uncertainty and Its Impact on the Sustainability of Farm Income,” as part of the Sustainable University Week activities.
The workshop was delivered by Professor Dr. Zuhl Radhiwi Kadhim, Professor Dr. Iskandar Hussein Ali, and Assistant Lecturer Diana Majeed Khalil. It was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameera Mohammed Salih, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Osama Kadhim Jabara, in addition to a number of academic staff and students.
The workshop aimed to introduce sound decisions and policies that farmers can adopt to address the negative impacts of risk and uncertainty associated with agricultural production processes. These approaches contribute to achieving two key outcomes for farmers: a guaranteed minimum level of income and a reduced level of income variability across different agricultural crops.
The workshop recommended that agricultural extension services should play a more active role in encouraging farmers to implement fundamental changes in their farms. This can be achieved by providing up-to-date information on modern methods and technologies in areas such as prevention, nutrition, fertilization, and other practices that enhance farm income and improve resource-use efficiency. Such efforts will help farmers cope with risk and uncertainty and ensure the sustainability of farm income.
