Muna Jabbar Rahim from the Department of Agricultural Economics successfully defended her M.Sc. thesis entitled “An Economic Study of the Determinants of Virtual Water for a Selected Group of Imported Agricultural Crops in Iraq for the Period 1990–2023.”
The study aimed to calculate the virtual water content of the selected crops and identify the water determinants for key strategic agricultural crops, namely wheat, rice, barley, and yellow corn.
The researcher recommended adopting an integrated national strategy to manage the nexus between water security and food security in Iraq, in addition to aligning agricultural trade policy toward importing water-intensive crops.
