The Psychological Challenges of the Deaf and Mute — A Scientific Symposium Organized by the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences
The University Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Media and Government Communication Division, organized a scientific symposium entitled “The Psychological Challenges of the Deaf and Mute.”
The lecture was delivered by Dr. Muthanna Falih Hammoud, Head of the Psychological Counseling Unit, and attended by a number of faculty members and students of the college.
The symposium aimed to shed light on the psychological challenges faced by individuals who are deaf and mute, as well as to discuss the psychological and social support mechanisms available to them. It also addressed effective methods of communication, integration into society, and strategies for enhancing their inclusion.
The symposium concluded with several recommendations, including the provision of sign language interpreters in public service sectors, training psychological specialists in deaf culture, integrating deaf students with supportive technologies, and promoting sign language through media platforms.
This activity contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — namely Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
