As part of strengthening the integration between theoretical and practical learning, and in accordance with the directives of the Deanship of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, the Department of Animal Production—under the direct supervision of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Hossam Jasim Hussein Bananeh—organized a scientific field trip for fourth-year students to the Agricultural Research Directorate at the Ministry of Agriculture, accompanied by a number of specialized faculty members.

The visit aimed to introduce students to modern field applications in poultry production. It included a comprehensive scientific tour of breeding facilities for laying hens, quail, and turkeys, in addition to visiting hatcheries to observe incubation stages and egg management. Students also explored feed mill operations, focusing on feed formulation, preparation, and quality control procedures.

The program featured hands-on training on semen collection techniques in poultry based on approved scientific standards, conducted under the supervision of specialized technical staff, thereby enhancing students’ practical competencies in reproductive technologies. Furthermore, faculty members provided detailed explanations on farm and hatchery management, poultry nutrition practices, and visited the station’s physiology laboratories to review key physiological tests used to evaluate productive and health performance.

This scientific trip aligns with the college’s vision to enhance higher education outcomes and link them to the needs of the agricultural sector. It supports the Sustainable Development Goals—particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger and Food Security), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)—by preparing qualified scientific cadres capable of applying practical knowledge to support the sustainability of animal production in Iraq.
