The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad recently organized a workshop titled “Healthy Nutrition During College Years”, led by Assistant Professor Dr. Nagham Salah Mahdi from the Department of Food Science. The session focused on promoting healthy eating habits among students and raising awareness of the impact of nutrition on academic performance and overall well-being.
Workshop Highlights:
  • Understanding the concept and importance of healthy nutrition for college students.
  • Nutritional requirements and meal planning during the university years.
  • Effects of unhealthy eating habits, including fast food and sugary drinks.
  • Nutrition’s role in concentration, memory, and mental health.
  • Strategies for organizing daily meals, drinking sufficient water, and maintaining adequate sleep.
Key Recommendations:
  • Eat three main meals daily, complemented by healthy snacks.
  • Increase intake of fruits and vegetables while limiting fried and fast foods.
  • Drink 6–8 cups of water per day.
  • Never skip breakfast and maintain regular sleep and study schedules.
  • Engage in simple daily physical activity, such as walking.
This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being and Goal 4: Quality Education, supporting students in adopting a healthier lifestyle during and beyond their college years.
