The Department of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, organized a scientific field visit to the Surveying Laboratory at the Department of Civil Engineering, Al-Nahrain University. The visit included second-year students from the Department of Soil and Water Resources as part of the “Land Leveling and Grading” course, under the supervision of Lecturer Maryam Mohammed Khalaf and Engineer Manar Mohsen Mahmoud.
The visit aimed to strengthen students’ practical skills and introduce them to the latest technologies and equipment used in land leveling and grading.
During the visit, the course instructors delivered a lecture covering surveying instruments, their components, installation procedures, and operational methods. This was followed by a hands-on field exercise in which students conducted elevation measurements using an electronic leveling device and a barcode staff, replacing traditional surveying methods.
This activity reflects the department’s commitment to integrating academic knowledge with practical application and to enhancing students’ technical competencies in land leveling and grading, in alignment with sustainable development goals.
The visit contributed to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
At the conclusion of the visit, the organizing team expressed their sincere appreciation to the Department of Civil Engineering and the staff of the Surveying Laboratory at Al-Nahrain University for their valuable support and cooperation in making this visit a success.
