The Department of Desertification Control, in collaboration with the Continuing Education Unit, organized a training course entitled “How to Achieve Sustainable Environmental Development.” The sessions were delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Maha Ibrahim Saleh (Institute of Genetic Engineering), Lecturer Dr. Saja Jawad Shanishil (Department of Desertification Control), Lecturer Dr. Safa Hamid Fadhil, and Assistant Lecturer Shumoos Abdul Sattar Jabbar (College of Engineering – Department of Environmental Engineering), with the attendance of a number of faculty members and students.
The course addressed several key scientific topics, most notably the role of plant tissue culture in reducing environmental pollution and enhancing productivity, as well as an overview of modern technologies that support environmental sustainability.
The course aimed to promote the use of advanced technologies in crop production and to contribute to achieving food security, in alignment with key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 13 (Climate Action), and Goal 15 (Life on Land).
At the conclusion of the course, emphasis was placed on the importance of continuing such scientific activities, which play a vital role in developing skills and raising environmental awareness. Best wishes were extended to all participants for continued success in their academic and professional endeavors.
