Organized by the Department of Food Sciences, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences / University of Baghdad, a scientific visit was conducted for first-year students to the Center for Biotechnology Research at Al-Nahrain University, as part of the requirements of the Microbiology course, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Asmaa Sabah Ahmeed and Assistant Professor Dr. Iman Jaber. The visit was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), which focuses on ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
The scientific visit included a field tour of the center’s laboratories, where students were introduced to the latest scientific instruments and laboratory technologies used in biotechnology and microbiology. They also learned about modern laboratory procedures, including the isolation and identification of microorganisms. In addition, a detailed explanation was provided regarding the role of these technologies in supporting scientific research and developing biological applications related to food, health, and environmental fields, giving students valuable hands-on exposure to a professional laboratory environment.
The visit aimed to broaden students’ scientific horizons and enhance their practical understanding of theoretical concepts delivered in lectures, as well as to develop their research skills in microbial diagnostics and laboratory analysis. It also provided them with initial experience in handling advanced laboratory equipment, contributing to building a solid scientific foundation that prepares them for higher academic levels and strengthens their future contributions to scientific research and community service.
