As part of the cultural season of the Department of Soil Science and Water Resources, and in the presence of the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Shatha Majid Nafaweh, along with a number of faculty members and postgraduate students, Professor Dr. Alaa Saleh Ati delivered a seminar entitled:
“Irrigation Water Scarcity and Sustainable Administrative Measures to Address It.”
The seminar aimed to clarify emerging concepts in water resources management, particularly “hydrocracy,” a term used to describe the relationship between power, politics, and water—especially in the context of the distribution and utilization of water resources in rivers, lakes, and other water bodies. The discussion also addressed various measures adopted globally to confront water scarcity.
The lecturer recommended encouraging farmers to continue agricultural production under climate change conditions by developing innovative and resilient agricultural solutions to withstand water scarcity and climatic challenges. This includes modernizing irrigation systems, improving the management of saline soils, and enhancing water governance under legislative frameworks that support agriculture and promote the water footprint concept.
This activity contributes to the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 13 (Climate Action)
