The Department of Soil Science and Water Resources, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad, organized a scientific field visit for third-year students to the Soil Research Division at the Directorate of Agricultural Research, Ministry of Agriculture, accompanied by a group of faculty members.
The visit aimed to strengthen students’ practical skills and bridge theoretical knowledge with modern field and laboratory applications in soil science.
At the beginning of the visit, the students were warmly welcomed by the Head of the Soil Research Division, who delivered a presentation introducing the division, its objectives, research responsibilities, and the analytical services it provides to agricultural institutions and researchers.
The presentation included an overview of the main analyses conducted by the division and their role in supporting national agricultural programs and improving soil productivity in Iraq. Afterwards, the division’s staff guided the students on a scientific tour of the soil research laboratories, where detailed explanations were given about the function of each laboratory and the types of analyses performed, as well as an introduction to the latest instruments and technologies used to measure the physical, chemical, and biological properties of soil.
This visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to observe real field and laboratory research work, enhancing their applied skills and familiarizing them with the practical agricultural work environment.
These activities are aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals aimed at preparing qualified graduates capable of effectively engaging in agricultural and research careers. This activity contributes specifically to Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
