The Department of Agricultural Machines and Equipment at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences organized a workshop entitled Fundamentals of Agricultural Crop Storage (Concepts and Technologies)”, presented by Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Shaker Mahdi, with the attendance of several faculty members and students.
The workshop addressed the basic scientific and practical concepts related to crop storage and its importance in maintaining crop quality and reducing post-harvest losses. It also reviewed the key factors affecting storage, including temperature, humidity, ventilation, type of packaging, and storage hygiene. In addition, modern storage technologies such as metal silos, refrigerated warehouses, and hermetic storage were introduced.
The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with modern methods and technologies used in crop storage and their practical applications to improve storage efficiency and support food security by reducing losses and improving the management of stored crops.
The workshop recommended adopting modern scientific practices in crop storage and ensuring proper preparation of storage facilities in terms of cleanliness, adequate ventilation, and appropriate control of temperature and humidity according to the type of stored crop.
