In a distinguished scientific achievement reflecting the advanced academic standing of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, faculty members from the Department of Desertification Combat participated in the 7th International Scientific Conference on Creativity and Innovation. The conference was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister from April 15–16, 2026, with broad participation from researchers and academics representing various scientific institutions. This event aligns with ongoing efforts to support scientific research, foster a culture of creativity and innovation, and expand academic collaboration to serve sustainable development goals.
The department’s contribution was presented through a rigorous research paper entitled:
“Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing in Agricultural Resource Management and Desertification Combat: From Precision Irrigation to Afforestation and Environmental Restoration in Arid Lands.”
The conference witnessed active engagement and direct participation, represented by Dr. Hussein Abbas Mohammed.
This scientific accomplishment was the result of collaborative research conducted by a distinguished group of faculty members from the Department of Desertification Combat:
Associate Professor Afaaq Ibrahim Juma, Professor Abdulghafour Ibrahim Hamad, Dr. Hussein Abbas Mohammed, Dr. Marwan Mousa Nasr, Dr. Bilal Majeed Karim, and Assistant Lecturer Hanadi Talib Ismail.
In recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions, all participating researchers were awarded the International Creativity Medal within the research track. This honor acknowledges their significant role in advancing scientific knowledge, promoting applied research, and employing modern technologies—particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing—in addressing environmental and agricultural challenges.
This achievement highlights the Department of Desertification Combat’s commitment to strengthening its presence in international scientific forums and contributing innovative solutions to issues related to agricultural resource management and desertification control, while also reinforcing the role of applied research in serving society.
