FAO and the University of Baghdad Collaborate on a Seminar Toward Sustainable Water Management Using Remote Sensing Technologies
Within the framework of the collaboration and partnership between the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad, a seminar entitled “Toward Sustainable Water Management Through Remote Sensing Technologies” was held as part of the WaPOR Project, funded by the Government of the Netherlands and implemented by FAO in Iraq, in cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Planning.
The seminar was attended by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Shakir Mahmood, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Graduate Studies; Prof. Dr. Alaa Saleh Ati, member of the steering committee and coordinator of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in the project; Dr. Shatha Salem Majeed, coordinator of the Ministry of Water Resources and member of the steering committee; Ms. Ghalwa Talal Sami, member of the technical committee; and Ms. Aseel Nazem Abdulhamid, FAO project coordinator, along with the heads of departments of the college.
A series of lectures were delivered to enhance academic awareness on the use of the WaPOR platform for monitoring land and water productivity as part of Iraq’s efforts toward sustainable water resource management.
