At the Department of Food Sciences, Professor Dr. Raqeeba Ali Jejean has cultivated three types of edible fungi during the current spring season, specifically in March and April, taking advantage of favorable environmental conditions characterized by abundant rainfall and moderate temperatures.

She explained that these conditions are ideal for fungal growth, which enhances the success of cultivation projects and contributes to increasing local production. The cultivation included three main species: oyster mushroom, king oyster mushroom, and lion’s mane mushroom, all of which are known for their high nutritional value and increasing market demand.

She noted that oyster mushrooms are distinguished by their rapid growth and adaptability, while king oyster mushrooms are valued for their high economic importance. Lion’s mane mushrooms are gaining increasing attention due to their health benefits, particularly in supporting the nervous system.

We extend our congratulations to Dr. Raqeeba for her continuous efforts in developing new mushroom varieties to support the Iraqi market.
