Scientific Departments
Since its establishment, the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences / University of Baghdad has witnessed a great development in the number of scientific disciplines and the fields of those disciplines, after the college consists of one specialization (general agriculture) it now includes (10) scientific departments covering all agricultural disciplines in its various branches and these sections are :
1- Department of Animal Production: Established in (1952).
2- Department of Agricultural Extension and Technology Transfer: Established in (1952).
3- Department of Food Sciences: Established in (1962).
4- Department of Field Crop Sciences: Established in (1962).
5- Department of Agricultural Economics: Established in (1962).
6- Department of Horticulture and Landscape Gardening: Established in (1963).
7- Department of Soil Sciences and Water Resources: Established in (1967)
8- Plant Protection Department: Established in (1972-1973).
9- Department of Agricultural Machines and Equipment: Established in (1987).
10- Department of Desertification Combat: Established in (2013).
After the year 1955, the first year in which faculty members graduated under the letter of the Ministry of Agriculture 11439 dated 17/11/1955, the following table shows the number of faculty members for the year 1955.

Each of these departments includes a group of classrooms and scientific laboratories for primary and graduate students, and some of these departments include a group of fields (plant and animal) that are used for the purpose of training students and conducting research and scientific experiments for professors and graduate students.
In addition to the scientific departments, there is a basic science division concerned with teaching various sciences and a computer unit concerned with teaching computers that includes a group of laboratories for graduate and primary students, as well as the Internet unit for Wi-Fi services, and the website unit, which is interested in publishing all its scientific and educational activities through the college’s special website .
The Division of Basic Sciences has recently joined the Department of Agricultural Machinery and Machinery with all its laboratories and teachers

The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences / University of Baghdad has witnessed a great development in the scientific field that included all departments, divisions and units in order to provide the opportunity for primary grade students, graduate students and researchers from the Ministry of Agriculture and the rest of the ministries and government departments to take sufficient space for study and scientific expansion and provide opportunities for all students wishing to join it as it is the oldest college at the University of Baghdad.
During the past decades, the college also witnessed multiple visits, including the visit of King Faisal II and his distribution of certificates of appreciation to graduates in 1956, in addition to the visit of the German Minister of Agriculture to the dairy factory in 1981, and the repeated visits of a number of members of the House of Representatives and officials in the Iraqi government, where the development at the level of infrastructure and equipping laboratories with the latest laboratory equipment was praised, as well as the visit of the former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Ali Al-Adeeb 2011, in which he said that what is happening in the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – University of Baghdad of conferences, research and scientific seminars are in the service of Iraq and its future and the advancement of the reality of higher education and scientific research in the field of agriculture and its effective role in the future of nations to reach practical goals and explorations by researchers in the field of agriculture.
On the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the founding of the University of Baghdad, the former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Hussein Al-Shahristani, opened the annual exhibition of the products of the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, which was held at the University of Baghdad – Al-Jadriyah in 2015.
In 2024, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Abdul Yasser Al-Aboudi, visited the pavilion dedicated to the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at the exhibition of scientific products of Iraqi universities, where His Excellency praised research, patents and new ideas that would advance the scientific process and advance the agricultural reality in Iraq.
As well as the visit of the former Minister of Agriculture and Advisor to the Presidency in the Iraqi Parliament, Dr. Saleh Hassan Al-Hasani in 2024, who said, “The advancement of the agricultural reality requires exceptional efforts by specialists and successful mechanisms that activate the role of the agricultural sector and benefit from the experiences of developed countries, as well as government support for farmers and agricultural engineers and interest in agriculture as the pillar of life.
